Dreaming of the “Ideal Church”

July 27 @ 10:00 am - July 29 @ 2:00 pm

Dreaming of the Ideal Church is a retreat for lay ministers and others who are asking, “if everything was running smoothly, what would the Catholic Church be like?”

We will consider the realities we face as a Church –

  • the decline of parishes (merging, etc)
  • fewer vocations to the priesthood and religious life
  • declining Mass attendance in many areas
  • young people leaving the church in relatively high numbers

and ask, “What can the laity do to make some of the dreams come to reality?”

This retreat will be a combination of input, prayer, and discussion, all focused on what the 99% of the Church might be able to do/be to bring about positive developments.

Critical topics will include –

  • Baptism
  • Faith in action
  • Prayer
  • The domestic church
  • The concept of holiness

Presenter: Sr. Elissa Rinere, C.P. has been a Passionist sister for over 30 years. She holds a Master’s degree in education from the University of Rhode Island and a Doctorate in Canon Law (J.C.D.) from the Catholic University of America. She has spent many years working in the Church as both a canon lawyer and a pastoral minister.
