Laudato Sí Film: The Letter: A Message for Our Earth
May 10 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm$40
Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ letter to all the peoples of Earth, was a prophetic cry born of the marriage of science and theology. Its message was clear: we must care for “our common home,” our “Sister, Mother Earth who sustains and governs us” because she is “burdened and laid waste.”
Now, seven years later, Pope Francis and his encyclical are featured in a film which puts flesh on the facts of climate change and allows its impact to wear a human face and to tell its story—person to person. Here we see and hear for ourselves the devastating and ubiquitous effects of climate change in the large-scale displacement of villages and peoples, the rapid extinction of species, the loss of rain forests and indigenous cultures, and the chronic anxiety and fear of our young people.
Join us for a viewing and discussion of this powerful, heartbreaking, and inspirational film. But be assured that our heartbreak at witnessing this suffering is where compassion, resolve, and hope take hold of us, and we become determined never again to look away from the suffering Earth and our brothers and sisters who suffer with her.
