Pain and the Spiritual Journey:
A Holy Week program sponsored by Our Lady of Calvary Retreat
During Lent, and especially Holy Week, we often ponder Jesus’ passion—a fancy, foreign-sounding word for pain and suffering. In fact, Jesus has famously asked us to “take up (your) cross and follow me” (Matt 16:24), a personal invitation into our own experience of pain.
Is there any meaning or purpose in pain? What might it teach us? What might its challenges be? What might its gifts be? What is the most constructive—and healing—approach to the pain we experience?
Join us for a two-hour zoom discussion, reflection, and sharing on the place of pain and suffering in spirituality, and how it is not, as Jesus tells the man born blind, a punishment for sin, but rather, as Paul suggests, the groaning of creation as it gives birth to a new creation, and a richer, more blessed experience of human life.
Presenter: Celeste Calabotta has a passionate love for and commitment to Contemplative Prayer and the contemplative life as lived in full participation in the world. A spiritual director and 12-year Lay Carmelite, Celeste taught Confirmation for 22 years, has been in retreat ministry at Our Lady of Calvary for 10 years.
