SUMMARY:Aging Gracefully: The Power of Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:We all aspire to age gracefully\, and there is an abundance of advice available on achieving this through books\, the internet\, and insights from friends and family. Much of this guidance emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle\, which includes regular exercise\, a balanced diet\, sufficient sleep\, and effective stress management. Additionally\, we recognize the value of staying connected with loved ones\, embracing new learning opportunities\, adopting a positive mindset\, and accepting the natural changes that come with aging. \nLess frequently discussed is how spirituality impacts our aging process. Spirituality often provides a built-in community\, which can influence health\, happiness\, and longevity. Engaging in religious and spiritual practices seems to slow cognitive decline and equips us with better coping strategies. \nJoin Sisters Eileen Fucito\, CP\, and Kathleen Dorney\, CND\, as they explore seven spiritual tasks that we all encounter as we age: belonging\, meaning\, hope\, the sacred\, morality\, beauty\, and the acceptance of dying. They will discuss how our spirituality can help us navigate these challenges\, leading to a more graceful acceptance of the aging process. \nSister Eileen is a member of the Sisters of the Cross and Passion (Passionist Sisters). Throughout her religious life\, she has been engaged in many aspects of ministry\, including elementary school teaching and principalship\, retreat ministry\, and community leadership. \nSister Eileen answered a call to spiritual accompaniment as a retreat leader and spiritual director. She has served on the retreat team at Holy Family Retreat Center in West Hartford\, CT\, and has spent the last twenty years as retreat director and founder of Our Lady Queen of Peace Diocesan Retreat Center in Memphis\, TN. She is a retreat team member at Our Lady of Calvary in Farmington\, CT. \nSister Kathleen\, a member of the Congregation of Notre Dame\, has been conducting workshops and retreats for many years for different age groups. Her ministries have included high school teaching\, college campus ministry\, retreats\, and other volunteer work. Kathleen is an avid and curious reader.
