July 2025 Dear friends and retreatants, Over the past months, the Passionist Sisters who live and serve in the United States have been praying and discerning about the future of Our Lady of Calvary’s ministry. For more than sixty years, this ministry has been owned and operated by the Corporation of Our Lady of Calvary. Through many discussions and careful review, it has become clear that we cannot continue the ministry as we have, or make any significant changes:
- There are no longer Passionist Sisters available for ministry and administration.
- The number of retreatants has declined, and their ages are increasing.
- The current administrative staff, Ron Miceli and Sister Mary Ann Strain, are retiring.
- The primary sources of income are hosting events and the Golf Tournament.
- There are four other retreat centers in Connecticut offering various programs.
We are deeply thankful for our Board of Trustees, who have helped us explore options. Given the challenges of continuing, the Passionist Sisters have made the decision to complete the ministry at Our Lady of Calvary and close the retreat center by September 2025.
We sincerely appreciate each of you who has loved and supported OLC over the years. We carry a beautiful legacy. However, the realities we face point toward closure. The unusual event of the pantry fire in June felt like a divine sign confirming our decision.
On behalf of the Passionist Sisters in North America, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to OLC. We have much to be proud of. We look forward to celebrating a Mass of Thanksgiving, with details to be announced.
With love and gratitude,
Passionist Sisters,
Sister Eileen Fucito
President Our Lady of Calvary Corporation
