Sister M. Joanne Fahey, C.P. (Sister Joanne), died unexpectedly on September 23, 2024, at the Drumalis Retreat Center in Larne, Northern Ireland. A member of the Congregational Leadership Team, she was there to attend an annual meeting. A dedicated Sister of the Cross and Passion, she entered religious life in 1964 and professed her final vows in 1972. She taught school in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island early in her professional career. She later taught at Prout High School in Wakefield, RI. She was the principal at Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich, as well as an active participant in faith formation in Jamaica in the West Indies.
Sister was the previous Administrator of Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center in Farmington, CT. While at OLC, she trained as a spiritual director. After her term as Administrator, she continued her devotion to Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center as a retreat team member and was a spiritual director to many.
Sister held many positions within the community and had a leadership role in the Associate program. Sister was born in Pawtucket, RI, to the late J. Linus Fahey and Marion (LaFountaine). Her brother, David Fahey, and her sister, Carolyn St.Vincent, predeceased her. Her siblings, Thomas Fahey, Elizabeth Rezendes, Veronica Duggan, and Maureen Saute, survived her.
