For more than a century, Catholic Social Teaching, outlined in a series of documents by successive popes, has provided essential guidance on how people of faith are called to live out the Gospel in our broken and suffering world. Catholic Social Teaching is based on seven principles: respect for the human person, promotion of the family, the individual’s right to own property, the common good, subsidiarity, the dignity of work and workers, and the pursuit of peace and care for the poor.
This election season, we are asked to consider each of these principles and how they serve the common good. Pope Francis makes it clear: Catholics and all people of goodwill are called to be multi-issue voters, not single-issue voters.
How can we ensure that our vote contributes to the common good? Our partners at NETWORK have developed an Equally Sacred Checklist, a valuable resource that helps us evaluate candidates based on their commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. This checklist is a practical tool that can guide us in making informed voting decisions.
One of our freedoms in America today is the ability to vote our conscience. We ask you to review the checklist below and then consider what you sincerely believe will contribute to the common good of all so that everyone thrives – no exceptions! Your voice and your vote matter.
